Mohammad Salehi is a dedicated farming professional and a technology expert with deep roots in the agricultural traditions of Afghanistan. Growing up in a farming family in Herat, he noticed the challenges his family and other families face. To change the lives of farmers for better, he founded Heray Spice in 2017. Mohammad inherited a passion for agriculture and the skills to cultivate high-quality crops, particularly Afghanistan’s saffron. His family continues to farm six acres of land in the Pashtoon Zarghon district. Mohammad served as a civilian Interpreter for US Armed Forces from 2010 – 2014 in Afghanistan, where he worked on social and economic projects for Afghan farmers and local education institutions. With years of experience in farming, Mohammad is focused on sustainable farming practices and cooperative business model, working closely with Afghan farmers to empower communities and improve livelihoods. His efforts focus on ensuring quality, promoting ethical agricultural practices, and creating opportunities for Afghan farmers to connect with international markets. Mohammad holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in information technology and management from Illinois Institute of Technology and worked as a software engineer for five years. For the last 7 years, he has been focused to integrate technology into farming practices to enhance efficiency, traceability, and product quality. His forward-thinking approach ensures that Heray Spice’s products meet international standards while maintaining the authenticity and integrity of Afghanistan’s saffron heritage.
